PUTLAND, George Mr. George Putland, who died on August 16, was born in Sussex in 1836. He arrived with his parents in South Australia by the Royal Admiral in December, 1840. He resided near Kensington and later at Mount Lofty. .He was engaged in carting by bullock teams to Port Adelaide. From Mount Lofty he went to Mount Pleasant, and thence to Yankalilla, where he farmed until 1874. He then removed to Hayward Park, Yorke Peninsula. In 1884 he travelled overland to the Wimmera district, in Victoria, and carried on farming there for some years. His wife died in 1909, and he returned to Adelaide and lived with his daughter, Mr. Heading, of Croydon West. He leaves five sons and four daughters— Messrs. J. Putland and D. Port land (Berriwillock, Victoria), J. Putland (Heighton, Victoria), G. Putland (on active service], and A. Putland (Fremantle), Mesdanies Heading (Croydon West), Fulston (Payneham), Mackley (Polkemmet, Victoria), and Gray (Prospect). There are 44 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren.
