Occupation of Labourer and Farmer residing at Adelaide, Pt. Broughton and Modbury
Funeral of Mr. Haines, of Tea Tree Gully.
—A correspondent informs us that 'the mortal remains of this old and highly-esteemed fellow colonist were conveyed to their final resting-place in the Houghton Cemetery on Sunday last, and placed beside his first wife and their daughter, both of whom had died within the last two years. The hearse was followed by his widow, two sons and their wives, his two daughters, and one of their husbands, in Mr. Cooke's vehicle, followed by a train of some 30 vehicles, containing friends from all parts and several horsemen. The preachers of the Baptist cause conducted the ceremony, Mr. Hutchinson offering prayer at the house and grave, and Mr. Squibb delivering the address and reading; in the course of the former he stated remembering the deceased on one occasion, some years ago, holding his hat while he preached in light-square, and was pelted with stones by the rabble. Mr. Bundey, of North Adelaide, conducted the funeral, one of the largest seen for some time in the neighbourhood, showing how much our old friend was esteemed. The funeral services will take place next sabbath.
