ATKINSON, James Death of Mr. J. Atkinson. — Mr. James Atkinson, a colonistof 44 years, died on Christmas Day at the age of 76 years. Mr. Atkinson arrived in South Australia in the ship Osseola in April, 1851, and took an engagement with Mr. Jacobs, of Gawler, as a farm laborer. In 1852 he went to the gold-fields in Victoria, where he met with fair success. He returned to this colony in 1853, and settled near Strathalbyn, where he held a farm, until the Northern Areas were opened up in 1874, when he selected land in Yackamoorundie. The deceased leaves a widow, two sons — Mr. J. Atkinson, of Yacka, and Mr. W. Atkinson, of Mundoora — and six daughters. The funeral took place at the local cemetery on Thursday, . the Rev. J. Blacket officiating.
