HORNE, Benjamin One of the oldest and most respected residents of Brink worth, Mr. Benjamin Horne, died suddenly on April 14. He was in the best of spirits and health until a few hours before his death, the cause of which was heart failure. He left a widow, five sons, and two daughters, and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was only on the 18th of last month that the family gathered to celebrate ' their parents' diamond wedding. Mr. Horne was in his 82nd year. Born in Sussex on November 7, 1837 he arrivedin this State in the ship Morley, with his parents, in January, 1840. The widow is also a very old colonist. She is now in fairly good health. Mr. Horne had many interesting experiences of the early dates of the State to relate. He witnessed the turning of the first sod of the Port Adelaide railway. At 16 he visited the Victorian goldfields. After his return he went with the rest of his family to Auburn and married there at the age of 21. From that time for some years he was engaged in fanning and other pursuits. Over 40 years ago he took up land in the district and remained on the farm until 16 years ago, when ho retired. A year later he built a residence in the township. Throughout his long life he was an earnest, and hard worker for the Church of England. The church at Koolunga owes much to his efforts, and the block of ground the Brinkworth Church stands on was presented by him. His sons are Mr. G. Horne, Koolunga; Mr. J. H. Horne, Prospect; Mr. A. Horne, Carpa; Mr. D. P. Horne, Western Australia; and Mr. C. A. Horne, Brinkworth. His daughters are Mrs. J. F. Everett, Brinkworth; Mrs W. G. Meaker, Woodville.
